On Feb. 4, a U.S. military fighter aircraft shot down the suspected Chinese spy balloon off the coast of South Carolina. “We successfully took it down, and I want to compliment our aviators who did it,” U.S. President Joe Biden said. U.S. defence officials said that the balloon was collecting intelligence for China, but China said it was simply a weather balloon that had blown off course. The balloon, which was as big as three school buses, entered through Canada, which it had flown over for several days. On Feb. 3, another suspected Chinese spy balloon was spotted flying over Colombia, a country in South America, further raising suspicions.
