Jaylen Smith has become the youngest Black person ever elected mayor in the USA after winning an election in Chapter of Earle, Arkansas at the age of 18.
Having only graduated high school last May, Smith ran on a platform of improving the police, drainage system, and abandoned homes in the community.
Smith will also attend university while in office and told the Washington Post, “I didn’t want to be 30 or 40 and become mayor when I could be one right now.”

ジェイレン・スミスさんは18歳で、アーカンソー州アール支部の選挙で当選し、アメリカでこれまで選出された市長の中で最も若い黒人になりました。最近の5月に高校を卒業したばかりで、スミスさんは地域の警察、排水システム、そして廃墟を改善する政策に立候補しました。

スミスさんは任期中も大学に通う予定で、ワシントンポストに「今すぐなれるのに30や40で市長になりたくなかった」と話しました。
