Restaurant management software maker Toast Inc., published a Restaurant Trends report showing various customer habits over the past financial quarter including tipping rates.

According to the report, California gave the lowest tips on average at 17.5% of the bill, followed by Washington at 18.3%, then Florida and New York tied for third-lowest with 18.5%. Indiana had the best tippers who left 21% of the bill behind.

Despite the lower tips, California has the highest minimum wage in the country, so waiters may still take home more money than in other states that tip higher. Toast also reported that tipping nationwide was up nearly 10% from the previous year.
