日本（にほん）では毎年（まいとし）、今年（ことし）を表（あらわ）す「今年の漢字（かんじ）」が国民（こくみん）の投票（とうひょう）に基（もと）づいて選（えら）ばれています。「今年（ことし）の漢字」に選ばれたのは「戦（いくさ）」です。今年はロシアのウクライナ侵攻（しんこう）などによって戦争（せんそう）について考（かんが）えさせられたからです。また、物（もの）の値段（ねだん）が上（あ）がることや新型（しんがた）コロナウイルスなど日常生活（にちじょうせいかつ）で戦（たたか）うことが多（おお）かったことも理由（りゆう）の一（ひと）つです。サッカーのワールドカップの日本代表（にほんだいひょう）の素晴（すば）らしい戦いを理由に挙（あ）げる人（ひと）たちもいました。

Every year in Japan, the “Kanji of the Year” is selected to represent the year, based on the votes of the Japanese people. The word chosen for this year’s “Kanji of the Year” is “戦 (war)”. This year’s kanji was chosen because Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and other events have made us think about war. Another reason is that there have been many battles in our daily lives, such as the rising prices of goods and COVID-19. Some people also cited the excellent performance of the Japanese national soccer team in the World Cup as a reason.
