The island of Saganoshima in Goto City, Nagasaki Prefecture, is home to about 100 people, many of whom are elderly. There is one store that sells essentials for daily life, but it is scheduled to shut down in December.

For this reason, a service to deliver food and other items by drone from a supermarket on Fukue Island in Goto City began on September 26.

The service is supposed to deliver three days a week, four times a day. The boxes containing the items have parachutes attached to them, and the drone drops the boxes from above. The drone flies at about 100 kilometer per hour, and flies back over the same route.  

The person who received the goods said, “It is a great service as it would be very inconvenient without any stores in the island.

長崎県五島市の嵯峨島（さがのしま）という島には、100人ぐらいが住んでいて、お年寄りがたくさんいます。生活に必要な物を売る店が1つありますが、12月になくなってしまう予定です。

このため、五島市の福江島のスーパーから、ドローンで食べ物などを届けるサービスが、9月26日から始まりました。1週間に3日、1日に4回届けることになっています。

ドローンは時速100kmぐらいで飛び、品物が入った箱にはパラシュートが付いていて、ドローンは上から箱を落とします。そして、また同じところを飛んで帰ります。

品物を届けてもらった人は「島の店がなくなったら不便になるので、いいと思います」と話しました。
