Nitori, a long-established furniture company in Japan, recently showed their newest lineup of “Gaming Furniture” at “Tokyo Game Show 2022”. While many products had the concept of “modern” in common, there was one product that took inspiration from one traditional type of Japanese bedding. Launching in September 2022, the “Smartphone Blanket” is a perfect example of learning from the past.

At a glance, it may seem like an ordinary blanket. However, this blanket has two holes at the top. If you put your arms through them, you can have your arms out while also covering up to your chest and shoulders.

As its name, the “Smartphone Blanket”, people can use this blanket without giving up on comfort. On SNS, there have been numerous positive comments, such as “the person who came up with this is a genius”, and “I never thought of opening holes in my blanket”.

ぱっと見ではよくある暖かそうな2枚合わせの毛布ですが、よく見ると、2カ所に穴が開いています。ここから腕を通せば、胸元や肩までしっかり毛布をかぶせたまま、腕だけ毛布の外に出すことができます。

「スマホ毛布」と名付けられた商品名の通り、毛布をかけたままスマートフォンを使うすることができるので、SNS上では「これを考えた人すごい」「布団に穴を開ける発想はなかった」などと、アイデアを絶賛する声が広がっています。「温故知新のものづくり」とも呼べる、アイデア商品を生み出すニトリの特徴がここに表れています。
