As I was enjoying the beautiful cherry blossoms that line the streets on my way to the station this morning, I was struck with the realization that today would be the start of my final year in high school. It felt surreal to think that one year later, I would not be on the same crowded train wearing my school uniform – but most importantly, I would not be a high school student anymore!
Now that I look back on my years spent at this school, I have realized there are several aspects of my high school life that I have grown accustomed to, besides the daily routine of wearing the same school uniform or riding the trains.
One example is the long and stressful nights that come around every term during the midterms and finals. The amount of time spent on finishing my homework and revising for the exams feels endless during this period, and most of the time, I can feel myself falling apart day by day. It’s an accomplishment to reach the exams and another hurdle to get through them; but for me, the worst part of it all is dealing with the dissatisfaction of not having studied enough or receiving a bad score on a subject that I felt confident in.
So as you can probably tell by now, the exam seasons have always been my worst nightmares in high school. However, even having said all that, there is always the feeling of accomplishment after I overcome them, and I look forward most to the exam breaks that follow. Also, despite the exams being one of my least favorite parts of being in school, I really believe that this period has been crucial in training my diligence and self-development skills. By knowing that I got through my past exams, it gives me reassurance that I will get through the next one and any other upcoming struggles I may face.
Finally, something that I want to promise myself and anybody reading this blog is that besides trying my best this year, I want to be able to enjoy all the fun and not-so-fun parts of my year coming ahead. I’m grateful to have been able to make all the valuable memories and new discoveries during my time in this school! So cheers to my last year of high school!
