Today I’d like to offer you a sneak peek of what we did in the last Monday session:)
We did an activity called “Scattergories”. It’s basically a game where we make a list of words starting with a chosen letter. There were different categories including animals, vegetables, celebrities, etc. How to win this game was to come up with a word that no one else would choose in the same category! This time, the chosen letter was “M”, so everyone tried to come up with words that start with an M in each category. We took some time to look up words on the internet as well, and there were some interesting words presented that were new to me. Have you guys ever heard “Macau” or “Mung bean”? These are actually the types of vegetables that my students chose for one of the categories. Since I’ve never heard these two before, it was very interesting to learn from my students! I think the great point of this game is, as you try to find rare words you get to learn new things. Unfortunately, we only got to do one round this Monday, so hopefully we can do this activity again sometime:)

今回のblogでは、前回の月曜セッションで行った内容について書いていきたいと思います:)
私たちは”Scattergories”というアクティビティをしました～。簡単に説明すると、Scattergoriesとは決められた一つの文字から始まる単語のリストを作るというゲームです。リストには異なるカテゴリーがあって、動物、野菜、有名人などでした。このゲームで勝つ方法は、同じカテゴリーでほかの人とは違う単語を思いつくことです！今回の文字はMで、みんなそれぞれのカテゴリーでMから始まる単語を考えました。インターネットで調べる時間も設けて、私も初めて聞くような面白い単語も登場しました。みなさん、”Macau”や”Mung bean”という単語を聞いたことはありますか？これは、生徒さんがあるカテゴリーで選んできた野菜の名前です。私はこの2つの単語を初めて聞いたので、野菜について知ることができてとても面白いと感じました。このゲームの良いところは、ほかの人と被らないようなレアな単語を探そうとすることで新しいことを学ぶことができるという点だと私は思います。残念ながら、今回は1ラウンドしかすることができなかったので、また機会があればこのアクティビティができたら良いなと思います:)
