June 19th, 2022, was determined to have been the shortest day ever recorded, according to the National Physical Laboratory in England. It was 1.59 milliseconds less than 24 hours.

Also, according to timeanddate.com, 28 of the world’s shortest days happened in 2020, indicating that the Earth’s spinning has been speeding up.

Since the Earth’s spin is irregular, this isn’t a cause for alarm. In 1972, a leap second was added to Coordinated Universal Time, because the Earth had slowed down for a long period.
