In this session, we first did a spontaneous speech where each student had to talk for a minute straight about a random topic prompted by Ken. The topic ranged from sugar, blue, sweater, gorilla, and bread. The students did a great job continuously talking about the topic by giving examples. For instance, when given the topic of bread, a student began talking about how her dad makes really good cheese bread for her and her family. To make it a little more challenging, for the second round, Ken decided to prompt two topics to incorporate in the one minute. One student got blue and candy, the other got paper and bird. Do you think you could talk for a minute about these topics?
For the next activity, Ken introduced us to the Fishbowl Game! The Fishbowl Game is an online based activity that encourages us to guess words. Everyone had to put down two words to add to the ‘fishbowl’ of words used in the game. Once it’s someone’s turn, their screen shows one of the words and gives the player 30 seconds to give hints for their teammates to guess the word. But the catch is, you have to describe the word without using the word, or acting it out. It took a while to get the hang of, especially the 30 second time limit, which felt like wasn’t enough time to describe it. Regardless, it was a lot of fun coming up with ways to explain words such as break dance, seaweed, and son!
このセッションでは、まず、各生徒がケンから促されたランダムなトピックについて1分間ぶっ通しで話すというspontaneous speechを行いました。トピックは、砂糖、青、セーター、ゴリラ、パンと多岐にわたった。生徒たちは、そのトピックについて例を挙げながら、見事に話し続けました。例えば、パンの話題を振られた生徒さんは、お父さんが自分や家族のためにとてもおいしいチーズパンを作ってくれることを話し始めました。2回目は、1分間で2つのトピックを提示することにしました。一人は青とキャンディ、もう一人は紙と鳥です。これらのトピックについて1分間話すことができると思いますか？
次のアクティビティでは、ケンさんが「Fishbowl Game」を紹介してくれました。Fishbowl Gameは、オンラインで単語を推測するアクティビティです。このゲームで使われる言葉の「Fishbowl」に追加するために、全員が2つの言葉を書き入れなければなりません。自分の番が回ってくると、画面に単語が表示され、30秒以内にヒントを出して、チームメイトに単語を当ててもらうのです。しかし、その言葉を使ったり、演じたりすることなく、その言葉を表現しなければならないのです。特に30秒という制限時間は、説明するのに十分な時間ではないように感じられ、コツをつかむのに時間がかかりました。とはいえ、ブレイクダンス、海苔、息子といった言葉を説明する方法を考えるのはとても楽しかったです！ (by Lio)
