On December 20, the Bank of England, of the central bank of United Kingdom unveiled its first banknote featuring the portrait of King Charles, which will enter circulation in mid-2024 and will gradually replace the bill featuring his mother, Queen Elizabeth II. King Charles acceded to the throne in September upon the death of Queen Elizabeth, who had been on the throne for 70 years. The new 5, 10, 20, and 50 pound polymer bills will feature the King’s portrait on the front and his image on the watermark. However, the rest of the design is unchanged from the current version. According to the bank, King Charles is the second monarch to be depicted on British banknotes, after Queen Elizabeth, who appeared on the bills in 1960.

　英中央銀行のイングランド銀行は12月、チャールズ国王の肖像をあしらった初めての紙幣を公開しました。2024年半ばから流通を開始し、母のエリザベス女王が描かれた紙幣と徐々に入れ替わる予定です。チャールズ国王は、70年間王位にあったエリザベス女王の死去に伴い、９月に即位しました。５、10、20、50ポンドの新しいポリマー紙幣は、表に国王の肖像が描かれ、透かしには国王の姿が浮かびあがりますが、それ以外のデザインは現行のままとなっています。同銀行によると、チャールズ国王は、1960年に紙幣に登場したエリザベス女王に次いで、英国の紙幣に描かれた２番目の君主だそうです。
