High-end US fitness club chain Equinox announced that they would not accept any new members on January 1st. The idea was to snub people signing up only because it was their New Year resolution.
On New Year’s Day, Equinox tweeted, “It’s not you, it’s January”, which is a play on their slogan “It’s not fitness, it’s life” and suggests that anyone who begins to work out because of a New Year’s resolution isn’t dedicated enough.
The ban was only for one day, but Equinox was widely criticized on social media where people called the message “bullying” and said that those who want to get healthy shouldn’t be discouraged no matter what the day is.

この決まりは1日だけ適用されるものの、SNS内では同社のこの対応は「いじめ」にあたるとして、どんな日であっても健康になりたいと思っている人の出鼻をくじくようなことがあってはならないと批判が起きました。
