Jin, oldest member of K-pop supergroup BTS, began 18 months of mandatory military service at a front-line South Korean boot camp Dec. 13 as fans gathered nearby to say goodbye to their star. Six younger BTS members are to join the military in coming years, meaning that the world’s biggest boy band must take a hiatus for a few years. Jin, who turned 30 in December, entered a boot camp near the border with North Korea for five weeks of basic military training. About 20-39 fans – some holding Jin’s photos – and journalists gathered near the camp, but Jin moved into the camp in a vehicle without getting out.

　韓国の超人気グループ「BTS」の最年長メンバーであるジンさんが12月13日、韓国軍の前線部隊の訓練場に入り、18カ月の兵役義務を開始しました。近くにはファンたちが別れのあいさつをしようと集まりました。世界的に大人気のアイドルグループBTSの６人の年下メンバーたちは今後数年のうちに軍隊に入隊する予定で、数年間、活動を休止します。12月に30歳になったジンさんは、５週間の軍事基礎訓練を受けるため北朝鮮との軍事境界線近くの部隊に入隊しました。基地の近くには、ジンさんの写真を持つ20～30人のファンや記者らが集まったが、ジンさんは車両から降りることなく基地内に入りました。
