On September 3, 2022, Janus a two-headed tortoise turned 25 years-old. He celebrated his birthday at the museum of Geneva, Switzerland where he lives. There was an event at the museum for his birthday and people were able to take pictures with Janus.
He is now known to be the oldest two-heaed tortoise in history. Even tough tortoises are able to live up to 200 years, two-headed tortoises are very vulnerable to predators as their two-heads do not fit inside the shell to protect themselves. This causes them to not be able to live for a long time in the wild. Two-headed tortoises are also unable to control their movements as well as one-headed tortoises because they have two heads that control their body parts. This makes it hard for them move their body. According to the care takers of Janus, the right head is more stronger in personality with lots of curiosity while the left brain is more passive but loves to eat.
Even though two-headed tortoises are in much more danger than one-headed tortoises, Janus is kept in a safe enviroment with people making sure that he is healthy. With these kind caretakers of Janus, we hope that Janus continues to break his records for many more years to come.
2022年9月3日に、頭が二つあるカメのジェネス君が25歳になりました。彼の誕生日は彼が住んでいるスイス・ジュネーブにある博物館で祝われました。博物館では誕生日のイベントが行われ、ジェネス君と一緒に写真を撮ることができました。
ジェネス君は頭が二つあるカメの中で史上最高齢（しじょう さいこうれい）となりました。カメは200年生きると言われていますが、頭が二つあるカメはこうらの中に頭が2つ入いらないため、狙われやすく、自分を守ることができません。そのため、野生（やせい）では長く生きられないのです。また、頭が二つあるカメは、体の一部をあやつる頭が2つあるため、ふつうのカメのように動きをうまくそうさすることができません。ジェネス君の世話をしている人によると、右の頭は性格が強く好奇心がいっぱいだそうです。左の頭は気が弱いですが食べるのが好きだそうです。
ふつうのカメよりも寿命（じゅみょう）が短いカメですが、ジェネス君は安全な環境で介護（かいご）されていて、色々な方々が彼の健康を守ってくれています。ジェネス君ははこのような人たちに見守られながら、これからもずっと記録を更新（こうしん）し続けるのでしょう。
