The Grammy Awards ceremony was held on February 5, and composer/arranger Masanori Takumi’s “Sakura” (released in 2022) won in the Best Global Music Album category. The album features sound creation using traditional Japanese instruments. Although another work in which Takumi participated has been nominated in the past, this is the first time he has won the award. Mr. Takumi has been presenting his works under the name “Masa Takumi. He is the daughter of the late Hideki Nishijo and has been based in Los Angeles since 2018. Takumi said, “I am proud to receive this prestigious award as a Japanese composer. I would like to thank the Japanese music industry for nurturing me and the American music industry for welcoming me”.
